A Spark of Inspiration
The inspiration for Made by Michael goes back to a car show in Myrtle Beach in 2011, where I saw a modified Roush car with a unique emblem in the engine bay. This wasn’t just any badge; it bore the engraved signature of the craftsman who’d completed the modifications, a personal mark that stood as a testament to their skill and pride. Every time that car’s hood opened, people saw not only the marvel of Roush but the individual who had poured themselves into the work.
That moment stuck with me. The idea of signing one’s work as a badge of honor, a marker of craftsmanship and care, is something I’ve carried ever since. Made by Michael is my way of capturing that ethos—creating pieces that I would feel proud to mark with my name, whether that’s a subtle engraving, a signature, or a small label. For me, it’s a commitment to quality and a reminder to approach each project with the same level of pride.
Crafting with Purpose
My journey began with back-engraved, back-painted mirrors, an art form that still holds a special place for me. But as I explored, I discovered the thrill of learning new techniques, from layered signs and engraved cork trivets to custom gifts, 3D signage, and even handcrafted boxes. The diversity of materials and methods has become a source of excitement and inspiration—a way to continually challenge myself and embrace each new project as a creative form of meditation.
