Creating this butterfly box was a delightful project and a chance to dive into box-making techniques, experimenting with hinge placement, glue-ups, and overall design. Inspired by our neighbors’ incredible butterfly garden, I wanted to create something special as a thank-you for sharing such a beautiful space with the community. Their backyard has become a vibrant haven for butterflies, and we’re lucky enough to enjoy the view right from our own home.

The butterfly theme felt perfect for this box, symbolizing both the beauty they’ve cultivated and the small ways we can give back. I focused on selecting the right materials to complement the theme and tried to add little details that would bring it to life, from the smooth finishes to the careful hinge work. This piece not only served as a great way to hone my box-making skills but also as a thoughtful gesture to remind our neighbors just how much we appreciate the natural beauty they’ve created for all to enjoy.

This 3D version of the updated Security Catalyst logo was an exciting personal project, combining the creativity of my Made by Michael hobby business with my main brand. Taking the newly refreshed logo and transforming it into a substantial, multi-layered sign brought a new dimension to the design—literally. The sign itself is about 16 to 18 inches wide, making it a strong presence for the background of my video calls and adding a unique, branded touch to my workspace.

The build involved layering the logo on a white backer, cutting each element to add depth, and meticulously constructing a 3D representation that’s both eye-catching and polished. It’s a piece that not only showcases the Security Catalyst brand but also served as a rewarding project to refine my skills in layered sign-making. This fusion of creativity and branding gave me a chance to experiment with materials and scale, ultimately resulting in a professional-looking display that’s both functional and meaningful.

Creating this multi-layered “Bless Your Heart” sign was such a fun project, inspired by the spirited personality of a dear friend who’s a die-hard fan of the University of Georgia. Knowing their love for UGA athletics, I wanted to incorporate those bold, iconic colors to bring out the school spirit and make it a standout piece for their home.

I chose a layered design to add some depth and make it a bit more dynamic—just like the way this phrase can be used in so many situations, always with a touch of humor. Working with UGA’s red, black, and white made it even more meaningful, adding that school pride while still keeping it subtle and classy enough for any space.

From selecting the color palette to choosing the right materials, this “Bless Your Heart” sign turned into a true labor of love, perfect for gifting. It’s a playful yet heartfelt reminder of Southern charm, the love for Georgia, and of course, a friendship that brings out the best in both!
